Brendan Rodgers signs new long-term Celtic deal after sensational debut season

first_img Brendan Rodgers 1 Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has signed a new long-term contract, the Premiership champions have announced.Rodgers, appointed last summer, had been on a rolling deal but is now tied to the Glasgow giants until June 2021.The Northern Irishman has enjoyed an outstanding debut season in charge of the Hoops.He has yet to taste defeat in domestic competition, with their unbeaten run currently at 37 games, and has led the club to League Cup glory and the title with eight games to spare.Rodgers’ side could yet end the season with a treble too with a Scottish Cup semi-final clash with Rangers approaching.Chief executive Peter Lawwell told the club’s official website: “Brendan has made a huge impact at Celtic already.“He’s an outstanding manager and we believe he is one of the best coaches in Europe, if not world football, and we’re delighted that he has committed his future to Celtic.”Rodgers added: “I couldn’t be happier. I’m in the best place I could possibly be.“I’m eternally thankful to the board for showing trust in me last summer and now I’m very grateful for the commitment of the board.“It was very easy. Professionally and personally I’m in a good place. A few years ago I might have been in a rush.
