The seemingly indestructible black Trans Am was smart, sarcastic, and (for the time) a gee-whiz technological tour de force.Now, one of the original trio of cars built for use as KITT in the small-screen series is headed to the auction block at Julien’s.Starting life as a new-for-’82 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, it was created by Universal Studios and used in tours and appearances promoting the show. This particular KITT was also used in Hasselhoff’s ”Night Rocker” concert tour in Austria in 1987 and later exhibited on display at the Siegfried Marcus Automobile Museum through 2005. The car was bought by Hollywood Productions in 1983 and customized as a KITT vehicle, then employed on the car show tour. Back then, Hollywood Productions was contracted by Universal Studios to promote Knight Rider with the appearance of KITT at select car shows across America.These cars – there were three total – were created by Hollywood Productions under a licensing agreement with Universal Studios.
