Economics talk to focus on crossborder trading

Pau S. Pujolas, Assistant Professor of Economics from McMaster University. An upcoming talk on campus looks at lessons learned from historical cross-border trade data.On Monday, Oct. 29, Brock’s Department of Economics welcomes Pau S. Pujolas, Assistant Professor of Economics from McMaster University, to present “Structural Transformation and Trade: Spain-UK 1850-2000.” The talk will take place in TH240 from noon to 1:30 p.m.Pujolas’ paper uses historical and contemporary data from Spain to demonstrate patterns and build a dynamic model of trade and structural transformation. Using the model, Pujolas and his co-authors measure the cost of a spike in trade costs between Spain and the U.K. in the early 21st century and find that a trade collapse today would be even costlier. The talk is part of the department’s Research Seminar Series, which continues throughout the 2018-19 academic year. The series offers an opportunity to learn from renowned researchers from Canada and around the world. All talks are open to the public.A full list of speakers and details for each event are listed on the department’s website. read more
